It is with regret that the Alliance has decided to cancel the 2008 James River Sojourn. The Sojourn is a massive undertaking - to keep participant costs at a reasonable rate, Sojourns are subsidized with grants and sponsorships. Unfortunately, these sources of funding have been very slow to develop this year, which places us in the position where we need to make this decision.

Many educational programs have been impacted over the past year due to financial cutbacks and the economic downturn. Like many groups, the Alliance is also subject to these external forces. As of this time, it would be fiscally irresponsible for us to continue to move forward with this program in 2008. We apologize if this interferes with existing vacation plans.

The good news is that we have gathered an outstanding group of people for the Sojourn steering committee and we have the framework in place for planning the 2009 James River Sojourn. We now have over a year to plan and implement this very successful program - we saw over 120 participants in 2007. As a result, we are expecting the 2009 Sojourn to provide an outstanding meaningful watershed experience for both adults and children of diverse backgrounds.
