Future Site of Science Museum BayScapes Garden

The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay will be installing a BayScapes garden at the Science Museum of Virginia starting the week of May 11th. This project will replace approximately 1/7th acres of exotic grass with native plants and create wildlife habitat, improve local water quality, and provide sustainable landscaping education opportunities to the museums visitors. The Science Museum BayScapes will provide a highly visible site where people can learn first hand how they can install conservation landscaping at their homes and businesses in order to improve local and regional water quality.

Would you like to help with the planting of this garden? We are currently seeking volunteers to help plant native vegetation, install an educational access walkway, spread mulch, and water plants. Volunteer activities will occur from May 11th, May 12th, and Saturday, May 16th. Project partners includes the Science Museum of Virginia, VA Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, and ValleyCrest Landscape Maintenance. Funding for this project has been made possible by Philip Morris USA and the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund .

Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to assist in the planting of native vegetation, install an educational access walkway, spreading mulch and water plants. Volunteers can sign up for morning and afternoon shifts. Plantings and installation will take place 9AM to 12 Noon, and 1 PM to 4:30 PM Monday, May 11th and Tuesday, May 12th Saturday, May 16th beginning at 9 AM until completion.
