  Restoration and Monitoring

Projects involve on-the-ground restoration and monitoring activities, often for the purpose of demonstrating innovative restoration or monitoring techniques. Projects usually involve citizen participation.

Block Amphibian Monitoring Project
The Alliance piloted an amphibian monitoring program in order to develop an appropriate Bay-wide citizen monitoring activity linking the health of the Bay watershed to the health of habitat and wildlife.
Block Citizen Monitoring
The Alliance Citizen Monitoring program is a regional network of more than 145 trained volunteers who perform weekly water quality tests that help track the condition of waters flowing toward the Chesapeake Bay.
Block Environmental Education with DC Schools
The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and project partners conducted a program involving DC students in meaningful Bay experiences through classwork and outdoor fieldwork. Connections between the studentsÂ’ urban environment and the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed were emphasized and students took their first step into independent learning and becoming actively involved in their community.
Block Estuarine Habitat Restoration
Encourages voluntary partnerships in projects that improve water quality and wildlife habitat, build community involvement, and promote long-term watershed stewardship. Projects include: underwater grass restoration (SAV) / island and dune restoration, and more.
Block Stream Restoration and Riparian Forest Buffers
The Chesapeake Bay Program has set a goal to restore 2,010 miles of streamside forests by the year 2010. The Alliance has partnered with a variety of state and federal agencies and private organizations to engage the public in riparian forest buffer training and implementation.
